Josiah's tools // 2023/01/18

I use a range of tools in my work, and more or less adopt an attitude of 'if it leaves a mark, I'll use it'. Having said that, here are a few of my favourites:

99% of the time, if I'm using paint it's either Krink or Molotow. Occasionally I'll crack out Holbein's gouache for colour pieces, or even household paint.

I use Molotow again for fineliners, as they're cheap and leave a permanent mark (meaning I can write on more surfaces than similar pens).

For 'fine art' (whatever that is) I use Caran D'Ache Grafwood pencils. They're a little on the pricey side, but the lead is more or less grit-free (a rare thing in graphite pencils).

For writing and general sketching/doodling I like Blackwings, either the 602 or Matte variation.

For 'art' I'll draw on pretty much anything - printer paper, school sketchpads, napkins - but for writing I prefer something a little more comfortable to write on for long periods of time, either Rhodia or Leuchtturm (generally Rhodia for writing actual pieces, and Leuchtturm for taking notes).

Tools are just that - tools. Find what works for you, experiment, and don't forget to have fun!
